Maritime park, aquarium to undergo $3.6 million renovation

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A maritime park and aquarium in New Jersey will undergo an approximately $3.6 million renovation as early as this fall, officials said.

The renovations of Gardner’s Basin and the Atlantic City Aquarium are part of the city’s efforts to make the park more of a tourist destination beyond the boardwalk and casinos, city officials announced Wednesday.

The park’s renovations will include restroom updates, parking improvements and electric vehicle charging stations. The aquarium, which hasn’t undergone any major repairs in nearly 20 years, will have several improvements, including a new roof, replaced windows and a renovated gift shop.

The project’s funding will be paid for by grants from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s, as well as Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds.
