Regional district losing finance manager

PENTICTON – The South Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District is looking for a new finance manager for the second time in a year.

Finance manager Maureen Hayter has submitted her resignation, effective April 6, and the regional district has begun the process to replace her, according to chief administrative officer Bill Newell.

Hayter has been employed by the regional district for less than a year, having been appointed on March 8, 2017. Prior to that, she was director of finance for Okanagan-Skaha School District.

Hayter replaced Sandy Croteau, who resigned from the regional district in late 2016. The position went vacant for several months before Hayter was hired.

Hayter joins a lengthening list of regional district managers who have left the district recently, in spite of a boost in salaries.

Public Works manager Roger Huston resigned in January 2017; Development Services manager Donna Butler left the regional district’s employment in June 2017 and Emergency Services supervisor Dale Kronebusch resigned in June 2017.

Last February, the regional board heard the regional district wasn’t competitive when it comes to paying managerial salaries.

The board agreed at the time to boost salaries into more competitive pay categories in compliance with the board’s compensation policy and procedure.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
