TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency says verdicts are to be handed down in 10 days for suspects on trial over the storming of Saudi diplomatic missions in January.
The report says Tuesday’s announcement follows a two-day trial of 19 suspects.
Initially, 21 suspects were reported to be on trial but the judge told reporters one, a cleric, was later referred to a religious court and another one was absent. ISNA says dozens more suspects are expected to go on trial in the near future over the attacks.
Protesters stormed the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and a consulate in Mashhad in January after Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent Shiite cleric and dissident.
The attacks led to the severing of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
