Toronto Mayor Rob Ford sued for defamation by reporter

TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford is being sued by a Toronto Star reporter for slander.

The defamation suit, being served on the mayor this afternoon, relates to comments Ford made during a televised interview with Conrad Black on Monday.

Star editor Michael Cooke has said that in the interview Ford called his reporter a pedophile, though Ford did not use the actual word.

Cooke terms Ford’s comments a “vicious libel.”

Ford claimed in the interview that Dale was taking pictures of his children over his backyard fence.

Dale denied doing that. He was not immediately available to comment.

In a story posted on the Star website, Dale says he is also suing Vision TV, which broadcast the Ford interview.

A copy of the libel notice was not immediately available.
