Police identify body found at Kamloops pulp mill

KAMLOOPS – Police in Kamloops have confirmed the identity of a body that was found at the Domtar pulp mill last week.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that an autopsy was completed yesterday, March 12, and the body has been identified as 67-year-old David Michael Jeff.

He was among the Williams Lake residents that were evacuated to Kamloops last July during the province's worst wildfire season.

Jeff had been reported missing on July 31, 2017 while resulted in an extensive investigation, including search efforts being conducted by Kamloops RCMP, family and friends.

Shelkie says at this time the investigative and forensic findings indicate that Jeff's death is not suspicious in nature. Police are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service with their investigation into his death.

Police are asking for the public's help in determining a timeline of Jeff's activities prior to his death, and how he came to be in the area where his body was found.

Kamloops RCMP is asking anyone who spent any time with Jeff last summer to contact them, specifically if you know where he spent time during the day or where he slept at night.

You can contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
