‘Extremely dangerous’ man wanted for allegedly beating autistic man has Kelowna connection

A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant out of Mississauga, Ont. for allegedly beating an autistic man was cleared of a rather messy criminal file in Kelowna not long ago.

Ronjot Singh Dhami, 25, is wanted by Peel Regional Police and his picture and warrant for aggravated assault are going viral on social media, fed by outrage over the alleged incident. Police allege Dhami was one of three young men who attacked man March 12 at a bus terminal, according to a police release.

Police say they believe all three men are still in the greater Toronto area and are encouraged to turn themselves in.

"Anyone who sees Dhami or the other suspects is asked to call police immediately, and do not approach as they are extremely dangerous.

Dhami is most recently of Surrey, B.C. but in June 2014 he was arrested by Kelowna RCMP under suspicion of trafficking drugs, including fentanyl.

In December 2016, a B.C. Supreme Court justice tossed out evidence collected in the case in a bizarre story.

Police were correct in their assumption that Dhami stuffed quantities of illicit drugs in his rectum and held them there for nearly three days, but the evidence was tossed because police did not have reasonable cause to detain him.
