Homicide team called as New Westminster beating victim not expected to survive

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – One person is in custody as homicide investigators probe the case of a badly beaten man found Tuesday evening in New Westminster, B.C.

Police were called to the southwestern corner of the Vancouver suburb at about 7:45 p.m. to discover the victim.

Sgt. Bari Emam says the man appears to have been assaulted and has been rushed to hospital but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was contacted because he is not expected to survive.

Officers remained at the scene, around 23rd Street and 8th Avenue, through the night.

No further information has been released about the victim, the person in custody or an apparent motive for the attack.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. to speak to investigators.
