Kosovo premier says deal reached on EU’s rule of law mission

PRISTINA, Kosovo – Kosovo’s prime minister has confirmed that the government has reached an agreement with the European Union to extend by two years its rule-of-law mission, known as EULEX.

Isa Mustafa said Wednesday the agreement was concluded a day earlier, the last day of the EULEX mandate, in a meeting with the EU office head in Pristina, Samuel Zbogar, and a U.S. embassy representative.

After a response letter from EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, the Cabinet will pass two laws that also need to be approved at the parliament.

The EULEX mission supporting Kosovo on its path to greater European integration in the areas of rule of law and the fight against corruption started in 2008, when it declared independence from Serbia.
