Police nab five suspects with ties to Red Scorpions gang, seizes drugs, cash
NANAIMO, B.C. – Nanaimo RCMP has seized almost $70,000 in cash and drugs after arresting five people who Mounties say have connections to the Red Scorpions gang.
All five people were arrested during traffic stops in the Nanaimo area on Sunday.
Officers found $60,000 in cash, ten ounces of crack cocaine, and two ounces of heroin in the vehicles.
The next day, police searched a home and seized an additional $6,000 and some crystal meth and cocaine.
Mounties say the drugs are worth about $30,000, and trafficking charges will be recommended against the five, who are between the ages of 21 and 27.
While police say the group allegedly has ties to the Red Scorpions, they believe just one of them is an active member of the gang.
The suspects have been released from custody and are expected to appear in court in January.
