Police say Karim Meskine was beaten with a baseball bat by a 16-year-old boy at a SkyTrain station in New Westminster on Tuesday and was found unconscious by a passerby.
The region’s RCMP-led integrated homicide unit says Meskine and his assailant did not know each other.
The attacker was already facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Investigators say they’ll be meeting with Crown counsel this coming week to recommend murder charges.
Sgt. Bari Emam of the homicide unit says this is one of the saddest cases he’s been involved in.
