Parent: Baseball coaches discussed plan to hurt my daughter

DURHAM, N.H. – A youth sports organization is investigating a man’s allegations that two baseball coaches talked about a plan to hurt his 11-year-old daughter, the only girl on her team, to force her to quit the program.

Dan Klein alleges the coaches said they’d instruct a player to strike his daughter in the head with a baseball during practice, Foster’s Daily Democrat reported .

Klein, of Madbury, said his daughter is the only girl enrolled to play on a team in her division. He said two other coaches at the meeting who found the discussion inappropriate told him about the conversation, which they said took place during a draft meeting to assign players to team rosters last month.

Oyster River Youth Association director Matthew Glode said the organization is investigating. He said Wednesday it has always encouraged boys and girls to participate in all of its programs.

Glode said in a statement the newspaper report “relied upon one person’s perception of a third-party conversation” that happened nearly three weeks before the complaint was made. He said the organization “feels it is important to question every person who witnessed and/or engaged in that conversation before coming to any determinations.”

Durham police Deputy Chief Rene Kelley said the department will not pursue a criminal investigation.
