Dog control seeks owners of pig with pink painted toe nails

VERNON – She has painted pink toe nails, likes to follow you around, and squeals when you pick her up. That’s about all dog control knows about a small grey pig found wandering around the Vernon Golf Course.

Pat Ellis, with K9 Dog Control, says the chubby, grey pig was turned in to the Vernon SPCA Tuesday, then passed on to dog control.

“I don’t understand why the owners haven’t looked for her yet,” Ellis says. “She’s quite a  nice little pig.”

Piggy, as dog control calls her, will be held for a mandatory 72 hours to give her owners a chance to claim her. Then, she becomes the property of the pound and can be re-homed.

“Maybe they (owners) don’t want it, that’s what happens quite often,” Ellis says. “They get a pig or puppy and don’t realize how much work it is so they just turn them loose.”

The owner, or anyone interested in adopting Piggy if she isn’t reunited with her family, can call dog control at 250-545-8070.

“We would like to know if they want her back, how old she is, what her name is, and if she has any bad habits so we can find a home where people will look after her,” Ellis says.
