Labour peace at B.C. Tree Fruits

KELOWNA – The B.C. Tree Fruits Cooperative and it union have laid down the framework for a seven-year contract.

“We’re still putting the details on paper and waiting for the final signatures,” according to the cooperative’s marketing manager Chris Pollock.

The agreement between the company and UFCW Local 247 on the tentative deal came on Oct. 3.

“The new contract provides increased job security and employment opportunities for over 400 hourly employees across the Okanagan,” adds CEO Alan Tyabji. “The agreement includes more flexibility and productivity management. We are extremely pleased with the terms of the agreement which support the future growth and the long term goals of BC Tree Fruits Cooperative.”

The cooperative is owned by 520 orchardists in the Okanagan. The head office is in Kelowna.
