One dead, seven injured after early morning blaze in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. – An early morning house fire in Surrey, B.C., has killed one person and sent seven others to hospital.

The blaze broke out just after 3:30 Thursday morning and tore through the home in the Fleetwood neighbourhood.

Surrey deputy Fire Chief Dan Barnscher says the house was fully engulfed when crews arrived and neighbours were helping several residents escape.

The adult victim was found when firefighters searched the house after the flames had been doused.

Police have not released the name of the victim or the severity of any injuries suffered by the seven survivors.

Barnscher says the cause is under investigation but does not appear suspicious. (CKNW)
