New ski areas set to open at Sun Peaks
KAMLOOPS – When you head up to Sun Peaks this winter you will have 500 acres of new terrain and a couple of new runs to choose from.
New runs in West Morrisey will appeal to the more experienced skiers and the Gil’s will feature a vertical double with a lower ski out back to the main runs.
Gil’s Hill, named after one of the founders of the ski area, has been a popular backcountry area for skiers and snowboarders for more than 50 years and this winter will open as part of the main skiing area for Sun Peaks.
Thanks to the addition, which brings the in-bound ski terrain up to 4,270 acres, the resort now has the second largest ski area in Canada.
Sun Peaks has also added training space for ski racers and teams from all over Canada. Teams from Korea and Japan will be at the resort for training early this season.
“We’re adding more race training lanes because so many teams signed up,” Brandi Schier of Sun Peaks says. “We’re known for that early season consistent snowfall.”
Runs are set to start opening Saturday, Nov. 22.
