KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The largest-working cattle ranch in Canada has just become a little bit larger.
British Columbia’s Douglas Lake Ranch, which is located south of the Interior city of Kamloops, has announced the Dec. 31 purchase of the Quilchena Ranch.
The deal adds about 12,000 hectares of land to the 160,000 hectares already operated by the Douglas Lake Ranch.
No purchase price has been released, but Joe Gardiner of the Douglas Lake Ranch says it’s an historic event between two large neighbours who have been operating since the 1880s.
The Quilchena Ranch, which is located on the south shore of Nicola Lake and east of Douglas Lake, was acquired by French-born Joseph Guichon in the latter part of the 19th century.
Gardiner says the Quilchena Hotel, golf course, store and RV park will all retain their names. (CHNL)
