Green Lake Road residents under evacuation alert

PENTICTON  – More properties southwest of Penticton came under evacuation alert today.

The regional district issued a local state of emergency and evacuation alert for the Green Lake area in electoral area “D” this afternoon, April 12.

With a forecast calling for increased rain over the weekend, officials fear Green Lake may overflow, resulting in residential or roadway flooding.

The 16 properties under order include:

  • 2563 Green Lake Road   
  • 2487 Green Lake Road
  • 2628 Green Lake Road
  • 2575 Green Lake Road
  • 2584 Green Lake Road
  • 2625 Green Lake Road
  • 2580 Green Lake Road
  • 2451 Green Lake Road
  • 2490 Green Lake Road
  • 2501 Green Lake Road
  • 2674 Green Lake Road
  • 2622 Green Lake Road
  • 2711 Green Lake Road
  • 2521 Green Lake Road
  • 2216 Highway 97
  • 2228 Highway 97

The regional district has received an order from the province’s Ministry of Forests, Lands Natural Resource Operation and Rural Development to conduct emergency works on Crown land for flood mititagation. Funding from Emergency Management B.C. has financed the design and placement of a pumping operation to manage Green Lake water levels, with operations scheduled to begin tomorrow, April 13.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
