Capri Mall redevelopment moves forward in Kelowna

KELOWNA – High-rise fever is spreading in Kelowna to the edges of downtown.

ICR Projects Inc has put forth its plan for a 22-storey high rise on the Capri Mall site at Gordon Drive and Harvey Avenue.

Council is being asked to approve the exterior form and character of the building slated for the corner of Sutherland Avenue and Capri Street.

The 70-metre tower will sit on three floors of parking set beside stacked townhouses, planner Trisa Attwood says in her report to council, and will accommodate 221 units.

The Capri Mall is Kelowna’s oldest shopping centre, dating from the 1950s.

First revealed last fall, the tower is the initial phase of a planned redevelopment of the entire site.

When fully built out, the project could include 15 buildings, with the tallest at 26 storeys.

The project is being built under a comprehensive development plan that sets out the details and requires the developer to return to council for approval on different phases.
