Downtown Kamloops patrol team helps save woman’s life after potential overdose

KAMLOOPS – A pair of downtown Kamloops patrol team members are being credited with saving a life this week.

Jon George and Angela Halas were conducting a regular patrol as part of their Customer Care and Patrol Team duties near the 500 block of Victoria Street late yesterday afternoon, April 11, Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association executive director Carl DeSantis says in a news release.

They saw a woman in distress. She had collapsed and her condition was failing, DeSantis says. Halas and George took immediate action and began administering CPR to the unconscious woman, along with administering naloxone.

Her condition noticeably improved, DeSantis said, and emergency crews attended to take the woman to hospital.

"A lot was accomplished while saying very little to each other and I think that speaks to the teamwork that we strive for," George says in the release.

Halas said she is "grateful that a member of our community felt comfortable approaching the CAP Team in a time of distress and that Jon and I could rely on each other and utilize our training. Many thanks to every organization who assists in ensuring we get the training we need to do our job."

The team is trained by Canadian Mental Health Association, ASK Wellness, RCMP and Interior Health.

Last month, iNFOnews.ca went on a walk along with the team. Supervisor Alexis Proulx discussed how the team had never had to use naloxone before, although members are equipped with it.
