W-A-T-C-H: 6-year-old girl’s dance recital performance to ‘Respect’ becomes Internet sensation

RALEIGH, N.C. – Six-year-old Johanna Colon had never heard of Aretha Franklin prior to her recent dance recital. You wouldn’t know it by her performance of “Respect.”

During an interview on WRAL-TV in her hometown of Raleigh (http://bit.ly/1B0wuA3), Johanna said her mother told her about the “Queen of Soul.” After that, Johanna put her personal stamp on the performance, adding some of her own sassy style to the choreography.

Asked to describe her dance, Johanna said, “I thought I was really spicy.”

Her parents posted the video on Facebook on Sunday and it instantly became an Internet sensation, getting at least 25 million views.
