Washout closes Highway 33 east of Kelowna

KELOWNA – A washout east of Kelowna has closed 6.5 kilometres of Highway 33 with no estimated time of opening.

The B.C. Transportation Ministry says the highway is closed in both directions between the Mission Creek Bridge and 12 km south of the intersection with Highway 97.

A detour is available via Goudie Road and Cardinal Creek Road.

No one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged in the slide, the ministry says, adding higher than average snowpacks have increased the mudslide and washout risk.

For the very latest on the highway closure check out the Drive B.C. website.
