Locals make deals with the Dragons

VERNON – They braved the Dragon’s Den, and they left victorious.

Mark Hanson, of Armstrong, and Frank Deiter, of Vernon, scored some major business opportunities during their appearances on CBC’s the Dragon’s Den.

Their clips—filmed back in March and April—aired Wednesday night. The two contestants spoke about their products earlier in the week, but their lips were sealed about what happened in the Dragon’s Den.

Those who caught the episode now know that both entrepreneurs accepted deals on the spot. Hanson, who was pitching a waste compactor called the BinPak, accepted an investment offer of $150,000 from two Dragons in exchange for a nine per cent share of the business.

After sampling Deiter’s fresh apple juice—pressed in his Mobile Juice Factory—the Dragons practically had a food fight over who got to invest in it. The product helps farmers use up apples not fit for market due to bruises or blemishes, and creates another healthy, local product.

Deiter accepted an offer of $300,000 for a 50 per cent share of the company.

If you missed the episode, you can catch it again this Sunday at 9 p.m. or check it out online.
