City of Penticton wants your input on cannabis legislation

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton is preparing for the expected legalization of cannabis this summer, and part of that preparation is seeking the public’s input on the issue of retail sales.

Local municipalities will be empowered to implement regulations and guidelines regarding the use and sale of cannabis within their jurisdictions,

“This is a very important survey as citizens are being asked to help set the rules for retail cannabis sales and public use in the city,” engagement strategist JoAnn Kleb says in a media release.

Kleb says the data submitted to the city will help staff assemble a recommendation to council.

Questions in the survey include to what extent the sale of cannabis is supported in Penticton, where it should be sold, what those outlets should look like and how many outlets there should be.

Staff will work with the data received to draft bylaws and present them for the community’s approval at an open house and online later this summer.

Penticton residents interested in participating in the survey need to register at the city's Shape Your City website. Only one submission is allowed per person.

The website also has a wealth of information on the legalization of cannabis in Penticton, with a forum for discussion on the page and links to documents and information that will assist in forming an opinion on the sale of cannabis.
