Troopers name trooper involved in village shooting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The trooper who shot a man in Togiak following a fatal shooting in the village has been identified as an 18-year department veteran.

Alaska State Troopers say Trooper Daniel Sadloske fired his weapon Thursday after the man refused to drop his weapon.

The unnamed suspect was flown out of the southwest Alaska village for medical treatment.

Troopers say Sadloske had been placed on administrative leave following the incident.

According to troopers, the Togiak-based trooper responded to the sound of shots fired in a nearby residential area Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say Sadloske arrived to find a man on the ground who died of apparent gunshot wounds. The deceased man was identified as 61-year-old Samuel Brito.

Sadloske was not injured.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigations is investigating.
