BALTIMORE – The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Aaron Sanchez on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with a right middle finger laceration.
Sanchez allowed three earned runs and six hits over six innings in a 5-3 loss in Baltimore on Friday night. He threw 58 of his 93 pitches for strikes and did not factor in the decision.
Sanchez, 0-1 with a 3.33 earned-run average, has made only five starts this season. He had a blister problem earlier in the season and had a surgical procedure performed to remove part of the nail on his finger.
The Blue Jays also activated catcher Russell Martin from the disabled list and recalled right-hander Cesar Valdez from triple-A Buffalo before Saturday night’s game in Baltimore. Outfielder Dwight Smith Jr., was optioned to the Bisons and catcher Mike Ohlman was designated for assignment.
