WHL Roundup: Tarzwell’s OT winner over Hitmen extends Rebels’ win streak

CALGARY – Josh Tarzwell scored 25 seconds into overtime to lead the Red Deer Rebels over the Calgary Hitmen 5-4 in the Western Hockey League on Sunday.

Kalan Lind and Arshdeep Bains each scored twice for the Rebels (4-15-3) in regulation time.

Red Deer was leading 4-2 early in the third period but Zac Funk and Adam Kydd scored for Calgary (9-8-3) to send the game to overtime.

The Rebels have now won two games in a row after previously losing 13 straight.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Two first-period goals by Koehn Ziemmer set the tone for the game and led the way for Prince George (7-7-3), despite being outshot 31-16. Tristen Nielsen scored a pair in a losing effort for Vancouver (10-8-0).

TIGERS 6 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — A Ryan Chyzowski hat trick was the difference as Medicine Hat (14-7-1) avenged its loss to Lethbridge (9-12-2) the last time out. Garin Bjorklund made 27 saves for the win.

SILVERTIPS 3 CHIEFS 2 (OT)

SPOKANE, Wash. — Cole Fonstad scored two, including the winner at 3:06 of overtime, and added an assist to lead Everett (16-4-0) over Spokane (6-7-4). Dustin Wolf stopped 30-of-32 shots for the win.

THUNDERBIRDS 5 WINTERHAWKS 4

KENT, Wash. — Jared Davidson found the back of the net with 1:52 remaining in the third period to break a 4-4 deadlock and give Seattle (8-11-0) the victory over Portland (9-8-3). Jaydon Dureau scored twice for the Winterhawks.
