Quebec police arrest five men in connection with three killings in 2023, 2024

MONTREAL — Quebec police say they’ve arrested five men in connection with three killings over the last 18 months in Montreal and in a suburb just east of the city.

Montreal police and Quebec provincial police say the suspects between the ages of 26 and 35 were arrested in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.

Two of the men were already detained in Quebec, and searches were conducted in Montreal, Cambridge, Ont., and Kamloops, B.C.

The latest arrests follow a dozen others made this summer during a joint probe aimed at street gangs in Montreal and its northern suburb, Laval.

The homicides include the June 2023 shooting of a 32-year-old man inside his parked car in Charlemagne, 25 kilometres east of Montreal, that police say was a case of mistaken identity.

The actual target, a 28-year-old, was then gunned down in downtown Montreal two months later, and the third homicide took place on May 14 this year in the city’s north end.
