Mom says bullet from gun fired in upper suite struck her as she watched TV
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A Kamloops, B.C., woman has tearfully testified that her four-year-old daughter was sitting on her lap when she was struck by a bullet from a gun fired in an upper suite.
In a soft voice, 25-year-old Tanya Watkins told B.C. Supreme Court that she was watching TV with her family on June 4, 2013, when she heard an unbelievably loud bang and felt pain like she’d never felt before.
Watkins says the bullet that went through the floor could have hit her head but that it entered her elbow because she was sitting with her arm over her head.
She told court that the bullet was surgically removed near her tricep and the shattered bone was replaced by metal and screws.
Watkins says her daughter continues to have nightmares and is in counselling.
Thirty-five-year-old Trevor Wilvers is facing eight charges including criminal negligence causing bodily harm. (CHNL)
