MONTREAL – A 43-year-old cyclist is facing charges after allegedly smashing the windows of a Montreal city bus on Monday night.
Montreal police spokeswoman Caroline Chevrefils said the incident just before midnight was apparently sparked because the cyclist felt the city bus was following him too closely.
Police believe the bicycle itself or a bike lock was used to smash the windows and the front windshield of the bus, which ended up parked in front of the Montreal courthouse.
It was waiting to begin a nearby route when police were called and made an arrest.
The Montreal Transit Corp. said the driver was the only occupant at the time and was taken to hospital to be treated for shock. Spokesman Philippe Dery said the bus sustained enough damage that it had be to towed for repairs.
Dery said the company condemns all forms of aggression or intimidation against its drivers.
