Illustrating TV’s changes, CBS creating development unit for miniseries, live events

PASADENA, Calif. – CBS is establishing a special unit to develop miniseries and special live programs, an illustration of changing tastes in television.

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said Wednesday the new effort is being done in the wake of the miniseries “Under the Dome” last summer. The Stephen King series returns for its second season June 30.

In a similar vein, CBS previously announced that Halle Berry will star in another short series, “Extant,” being made with producer Steven Spielberg. “Extant” debuts July 2 and features Berry as an astronaut returning to Earth pregnant with an alien baby.

CBS also is on the lookout for live events.
