The Latest: IDs released in Cape Cod helicopter crash

CHATHAM, Mass. – The Latest on the helicopter crash in Chatham, Massachusetts (all times local):

5:15 p.m.

Police have identified the man and woman injured in a helicopter crash on Cape Cod.

Chatham police say the pilot, 48-year-old John Ryan of Scituate, and 48-year-old Tyra Pacheco of Acushnet, had to be freed from the wreckage when their 2002 Robinson Helicopter crashed on the shoreline of Crows Pond in Chatham just before 1 p.m. Friday.

Ryan was sent to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with serious injuries. Pacheco was listed in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Police say the helicopter was hired to do aerial real estate photography and was flying out of Plymouth Airport.

Authorities say a helicopter has crashed into a pond on Cape Cod, leaving two people with serious injuries.

The two-passenger helicopter crashed early Friday afternoon near the shore in Chatham, Massachusetts.

Chatham police Lt. Michael Anderson says the male pilot and a female passenger were trapped in the helicopter, which was partially submerged in the pond.

He says both victims were conscious when crews responded, but they had serious injuries.

Then were transported to separate nearby hospitals.

Police were investigating to determine where the helicopter originated. The names of the injured were not immediately released.
