New electoral area approved for South Okanagan regional district
PENTICTON – They are going to need another chair around the regional district board table.
A provincial order in council has been approved splitting the Okanagan Falls, or area D, electoral area in the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen into two pieces.
The regional district says in a media release the new Lieutenant Governor recently approved the order which takes effect in October in time for the upcoming municipal elections.
The new electoral area, called area I, will consist of communities on the west side of Skaha Lake, including Kaleden, Twin Lakes, St. Andrews, Marron Valley and Apex.
Dividing the Okanagan Falls electoral area in two will mean an additional seat at the board table, bringing to 19 the number of regional district directors.
