Doctor shortage trickles down to walk-in medical clinics across B.C.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – An apparent shortage of doctors in British Columbia is taking a toll on walk-in medical clinics.

The founding director of the Walk-In Clinics of BC Association says clinics are short-staffed, meaning doctors don’t always have time to see every patient needing care.

Mike McLoughlin says 25 walk-in clinics have closed in B.C. over the last five years.

He says clinics in Kelowna, Vernon and Victoria have shut their doors within the last 12 months.

McLoughlin says more doctors than ever before are working in the province, but B.C. still has a shortage of family practitioners. (CHNL)
