Turski finishes third at US Grand Prix to earn Olympic berth, Howell gets silver

PARK CITY, Utah – Montreal’s Kaya Turski locked up a spot on Canada’s Olympic freestyle ski team the hard way.

Turski finished third in women’s slopestyle at the U.S Grand Prix despite not having a training run on the Park City course until early Friday morning.

Turski said she was training in Colorado when she was called “last minute” and told she needed a top eight spot at the Grand Prix to solidify her spot on the Olympic team.

Turski, who missed five months of action with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, said she never wants to be in this type of situation again.

Still, she is pleased with the way she skied and feels good heading into the Sochi Olympics next month.

Devin Logan of the United States finished first while Dara Howell of Huntsville, Ont., was second.

Howell had already qualified for the Canadian team.
