Two men sentenced to life for first-degree murder in gang hit on wrong target
Vancouver police say two men convicted in a murder that they believe was a case of mistaken identity have been sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years.
Police say 35-year-old Kevin Jones of Vancouver and 32-year-old Colin Stewart of Surrey were found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder on Monday in the September 2009 attack.
Police say 35-year-old Rajinder Soomel’s body was found in the middle of a street in Vancouver.
A new release says investigators initially believed the death was a targeted gang hit but soon determined the man was not the intended victim.
It says three years later, another man believed to have been the original target was murdered in Port Moody.
