Kelowna tap dancer needs help getting to Ireland
KELOWNA – A local Kelowna dancer is asking for some 'likes' in an effort to get to an Irish dance camp in Ireland.
Lauren Maier, 18, has been dancing for 13 years. She was recently accepted to the 2018 Fusion Fighters Dance Fest in Limerick, Ireland, but the UBC Okanagan student needs help from her community to get there.
“I hope to become a professional dancer in the future,” she says. “And the camp this summer will be an amazing opportunity to further my professional dancing experience.”
The winner of the scholarship, which will pay for the camp but not travel expenses, will be the dancer whose application video got the most views on Facebook.
Maier filmed her video atop Knox Mountain Park in Kelowna and since uploading it Saturday, May 6, has received more than 13,000 views.
“This is my absolute passion,” she says. “Just view and share my video so it can get to as many people as possible.”
To view the video and vote for Lauren, visit the Fusion Fighters Dance Fest Facebook page. The contest runs until May 19.
