13-year-old boy injured in Eaton Centre shooting released from Toronto hospital
TORONTO – The 13-year-old boy who was hit in the head by gunshots fired at Toronto’s downtown Eaton Centre has been released from hospital.
The boy was visiting the popular mall’s food court with his mother and sister when the shooting broke out on June 2.
He was among six people wounded in the shooting, which also left one man dead.
Christopher Husbands, 23, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder in the shootings.
One other shooting victim — a 24-year-old man — remains in hospital with serious injuries.
Police have said that man belonged to the same gang as Husbands, as did the man who was killed, Ahmed Hassan, who was also 24. But police say they believe the shooting was the result of a personal dispute and was not gang-motivated.
Husbands was under house arrest for a previous charge at the time of the shootings, police said.
