Baltimore police officer accidentally shoot himself in wrist

Baltimore Police say an officer accidentally shot himself in his wrist while responding to a carjacking. Authorities had initially said the officer was shot by a suspect.

Deputy Commissioner Jason Johnson said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that the officer was in good condition at a local hospital.

Johnson says the department received a report of a carjacking about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighbourhood. He says three men confronted two women who were getting out of a car, took their purses and keys, and drove off in their vehicle.

Police say CitiWatch cameras saw the car in Cherry Hill and two detectives in an unmarked cruiser approached the vehicle.

Johnson says when one of the suspects fled, a detective accidentally shot himself. The suspects escaped.
