ABC anchor Elizabeth Vargas’ return from rehab for alcoholism interests TV viewers

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Television news viewers are curious about ABC anchor Elizabeth Vargas’ battle with alcoholism, judging by the ratings for news programs where she shared her story.

The Nielsen company said that Vargas’ return to “20/20” as co-anchor on Friday gathered the newsmagazine’s biggest audience in four years. Similarly, when she told her story about rehab on “Good Morning America” on Friday morning, the show drew its biggest crowd of the week.

Several ABC News personalities have been public in sharing stories about their medical issues, and viewers have appreciated hearing about them.
