Driver in pedestrian hit and run asked to turn herself in

KELOWNA – Police are hoping the female driver of a white SUV who hit a pedestrian Wednesday night will turn herself in.

There may no other way of identifying her. Police said in a release today, May 24, witnesses couldn't obtain a plate or more accurate description of the vehicle after the incident at the intersection of Leckie Road and Baron Road at 5:58 p.m. A 34-year-old woman remains in hospital today with serious injuries when she was struck by the vehicle.

Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says witnesses said the driver initially pulled to the side of the road before driving southbound on Leckie Road toward Springfield Road. They described the driver as an older woman with blonde or light coloured hair. The victim was assisted by several witnesses before taken to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance.

“We hope that the driver involved in this unfortunate incident has a change of heart and that they now choose to do the right thing, by coming forward to speak with police,” O’Donaghey says. “As officers look to advance their still ongoing investigation, RCMP ask that all witnesses contact police.”

If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are urged to contact Const. Emily Tousignant of the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
