Highway 3 in B.C.’s southern Interior reopens days after rock slide
KEREMEOS, B.C. – Drivers in British Columbia’s southern Interior can now use a stretch of highway that was closed earlier this week by sliding rocks, some the size of pickup trucks.
The rock slide occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 3, between Keremeos and Hedley, B.C., and about eight kilometres west of Standing Rock.
A female who was in a vehicle caught up in the slide was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Heavy equipment was brought in to remove debris and large boulders from the slide area that was about 150 metres wide.
The Ministry of Transportation says traffic is now open to two lanes, but there is a 60-kilometre-an-hour speed zone through the slide area.
