Police dog tracks down robber

KELOWNA – Mounties have a man in custody after a pharmacy was robbed and a vehicle was stolen this morning.

Police say the man entered the Shoppers Drug Mart in Orchard Park Mall, brandished a weapon and demanded drugs and keys to a vehicle. He fled the scene with some drugs and the car. RCMP Const. Kris Clark says police gave chase before the vehicle was spotted going "at a high rate of speed in an extremely dangerous manner" and the chase was called off.

The trail was picked up again when the car was ditched on Fir Court. Plainclothes and uniformed police flooded the area while a Police Service Dog tracked the suspect. The man was apprehended a short time later at an unrelated residence on Woods Road. Several bottles of drugs were recovered during the man's arrest as well as the search of the vehicle.

The 38-year-old man, of no fixed address, is expected to appear in court on Oct. 17, 2013.
