Early morning fire tears through three storey apartment in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – An entire apartment complex in New Westminster, B.C., has been gutted by fire.

The fire broke out at around 1:30 Friday morning, possibly in a second floor suite in the three storey building (at 4th Street and Ash Street) near Moody Park.

Flames quickly tore through all the units, leaving firefighters with little option but to protect neighbouring buildings, with another apartment just metres away.

The burning structure collapsed just after five a.m.

Firefighters from Delta and Burnaby joined New Westminster fire crews to help keep the blaze from spreading to the older three storey apartments in the mainly residential area.

There are no immediate reports of injuries and a cause has not been determined. (Global)
