Police looking for any information on who smashed urinals, sinks and toilets in Rutland park washrooms

KELOWNA – Thousands of dollars in damage has been done to public washrooms in a Rutland park, and Kelowna RCMP are looking for information.

Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says in a news release both the men's and women's washrooms at the Rutland sports field in the 400 block of Hartman Road have been extensively damaged.

Just before 12:30 p.m. May 24, a City of Kelowna official called RCMP to report the damage.

Police believe the destruction was carried out sometime overnight, either during the late evening hours of Tuesday, May 22, or the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 23.

The suspect or suspects allegedly gained entry into the washrooms and smashed all the sinks, toilets and urinals inside.

"This intentional act of destruction appears senseless,” O'Donaghey says in the release. “Our investigators are unable to determine what would motivate anyone to commit such a crime.”

Police are asking the public for information, and anyone who has information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and cite police file number 2018-27798. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
