Japan eliminates Canada from Davis Cup with 3-1 win in best-of-five tie

TOKYO – Japan eliminated Canada from the Davis Cup with a 3-1 win in its best-of-five tie on Sunday.

Frank Dancevic was forced to retire in the second set of his match against World No. 18 Kei Nishikori after one game. Nishikori won 6-2, 1-0.

Dancevic, from Niagara Falls, Ont., is ranked 119th in the world.

Canada will now play a World Group playoff in September.
