Council candidates endorsed by Kelowna firefighters

KELOWNA – A day after they announced their endorsement for mayoral candidate Sharon Shepherd, the Kelowna Professional Firefighters Association have released a list of candidates for council they feel are best suited to ensure public safety remains a priority.

Aside from supporting all four incumbent councillors seeking re-election, the association is also throwing their weight behind candidates Tracy Gray, Charlie Hodge, Beryl Itani and Brad Sieben.

“Our members know every part of our city as firefighters, residents and community volunteers,” IAFF Local 953 president Dennis Miller says in a press release. “When we look at how our city has grown, it’s clear that our city needs a balanced council to make public safety and firefighter safety a priority.”

The announcement comes just days after the association, which represents four fire stations around Kelowna, announced their support for former mayor and councillor Sharon Shepherd.

According to the release, the decision was made based on a shortlist of candidates’ answers to a prepared list of questions focused on public safety.
