Romania: crash fatality confirmed as CEO of pharma scam firm

BUCHAREST, Romania – Romanian authorities have confirmed that a man killed in a car crash a week ago was the CEO of a company that had been indicted on charges of delivering heavily diluted disinfectants to hospitals.

Prosecutors said Tuesday DNA tests confirmed the victim was Dan Condrea, chief executive of Hexi Pharma. His car slammed into a tree on a road north of Bucharest May 22.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the crash but prosecutors said that, in the preceding 67 minutes, Condrea repeatedly drove along the same route. They are conducting technical tests on the car.

Hexi had been indicted on charges that disinfectants provided to hospitals and Romania’s troops in Afghanistan were heavily diluted and ineffective. Condrea was to be questioned the day after the crash.
