Ex-prosecutor sentenced to self-imposed penalties in scheme

RALEIGH, N.C. – A former North Carolina district attorney has effectively been sentenced to self-imposed penalties in a scheme where he and another prosecutor hired each other’s wives to skirt ethics rules.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports former Rockingham County District Attorney Craig Blitzer was given a “prayer for judgment continued.” That means the misdemeanour won’t be on Blitzer’s record, but the court could still pass judgment later if he commits another offence.

He pleaded guilty in 2017 to a misdemeanour after prosecutors said he and former Person/Caswell County District Attorney Wallace Bradsher schemed to hire each other’s wives to collect over $100,000 in annual unearned salaries.

Blitzer resigned, agreed to a suspension of his law license and repaid $48,000.

He can’t get his law license back without State Bar approval.
