NEW YORK, N.Y. – Nicky Silver’s play “The Lyons” will close on Broadway on July 1 after the Tony Awards snubbed lead actress Linda Lavin.
Lavin, the former paper hat-wearing star of the TV series “Alice,” plays a fearsome mother in “The Lyons,” about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch.
The play, which debuted off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre last fall, will have played 80 performances and 21 previews on Broadway when it closes. It is directed by Mark Brokaw.
Lavin lost the Tony for best female actress in a play to Nina Arianda.
Lavin will next appear on Broadway in “Prince of Broadway” this November.
