Podborski says Canadian team doesn’t endorse trash talk, but it happens

SOCHI, Russia – Chef de mission Steve Podborski says the Canadian team doesn’t endorse trash talk but it can be part of the culture in some sports.

He was asked about the subject at a news conference today after Canadian snowboarders Maxence Parrot and Sebastien Toutant criticized American Shaun White’s decision to withdraw from the slopestyle event.

Podborski says they’re all “big boys,” adding the Canadian team is a great one that doesn’t need to trash talk.

Parrot and Toutant later spoke out on Twitter before deleting the tweets.

White was considered a podium contender in slopestyle but will instead concentrate on the halfpipe event.

Parrot recently won gold at the X Games and is a medal threat in slopestyle at the Winter Games in Sochi with Toutant and fellow Canadian Mark McMorris.
